Klinio can also be helpful for those who simply want to lose weight and create better eating habits.

The company employs credentialed health professionals, including registered dietitians, diabetes educators, clinical psychologists, and physician assistants, to ensure the platform stays up-to-date and follows an evidence-based approach.

As of today, Klinio has over 180,000 active users around the world.

How Does It Work?

Klinio claims to work by changing how you approach your routine, food, and medical condition. The diabetes assistant helps you take baby steps to create changes that set you up for lifelong results.

In the web platform and app, individuals can keep track of their steps, weight, blood glucose levels, hemoglobin A1c, and medications.

Users can also access personalized meal plans, pre-made grocery shopping lists, recipes, beginner workouts, educational content, and progress tracking. 

Your meal plan will be customized based on the number of calories, macronutrients, cholesterol, and sugar you need. It’ll also come adapted to your dietary restrictions and food preferences.

Klinio includes thousands of easy-to-prepare recipes containing pre-calculated calories, macronutrients, and portion sizes. All meals in the meal plan take less than 20 minutes to prepare.

Health Benefits Of Klinio

Let’s take a look at some of the potential health benefits of Klinio.

Improved Blood Sugar Control

No specific research confirming the effectiveness of Klinio for diabetes management exists.

However, the app focuses on improving physical activity and diet quality to help customers reach and maintain moderate weight loss, which is important for blood sugar control.[1]

Klinio claims that the average customer experiences a 0.5% drop in hemoglobin A1c[2] — a blood test that measures your average blood sugar levels over the last three months. The time that it took to see these results are not specified.

The diet plans offered by Klinio are entirely personalized based on your individual calorie and macronutrient needs. Each plan is designed to ease you into a reduced-sugar, moderate-carbohydrate diet which, if followed correctly, will likely result in better blood sugar control.

Furthermore, the Klinio app comes with a detailed progress tracker that allows you to closely monitor your blood sugar levels to evaluate the effectiveness of your diet plan. You can either manually log your blood sugar information or connect it to a compatible glucose-tracking device within your app.

The information can be presented to your healthcare provider to help them make more informed decisions about your treatment plan, including the type and dosage of medication you need.

Increased Physical Activity

According to the company website, the average Klinio customer exercises for 35 additional minutes per week. Klinio offers customizable no-equipment workouts based on your activity level, pace, and ability. 

Exercise is vital for people with diabetes because it makes your body more sensitive to insulin[3] —  a hormone that allows blood sugar into your body’s cells so that it can be used for energy — which may help stabilize your blood glucose levels. 

Being active supports total-body health and decreases your risk of heart disease and nerve damage. Exercising regularly[3] also can improve your sleep quality, memory, blood pressure, cholesterol, and mood.

Weight Loss

Perhaps this one is a no-brainer, but if you are exercising more and replacing less healthy foods with foods lower in calories and sugar, there’s a good chance that you’ll experience weight loss.

The company claims the average consumer loses 30 pounds with Klinio, but the time frame isn’t specified. There are also no studies to back up this claim.

However, the Kilinio app formulates a personalized diet and exercise plan for customers who wish to lose weight. Simply enter your height, weight, and activity level along with your goal weight.

The app also includes a pre-made grocery list and easy-to-follow recipes to take the guesswork out of planning for and preparing reduced-calorie meals.

It must be mentioned that we discovered the sample meal plans offered by Klinio only provided around 800 calories some days, which is far too low for most people. This may make the program challenging to stick with and can even result in nutrient deficiencies.

Weight Loss Fuel Supplement

To further aid weight loss efforts, Klinio offers Weight Loss Fuel, a supplement that comes in organic, gluten-free, and sugar-free strawberry lemonade-flavored powder packets. Weight Loss Fuel is designed to:

  • Reduce bloating.
  • Burn fat.
  • Support healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
  • Reduce cravings.
  • Support skin health. 

This supplement is composed of the natural fibers glucomannan and cellulose. Glucomannan is recognized for its potential to increase feelings of fullness and satiety and delay stomach emptying. 

There is some evidence[4] that glucomannan can help reduce weight gain, blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol. However, its ability to support weight loss remains controversial, as some studies[5] have found little to no effect on body weight.

While cellulose[6] is a key ingredient in a new weight loss device called Plenity, there is not much evidence to suggest it burns fat. However, as a source of insoluble fiber, cellulose may support digestive health[7] and insulin sensitivity.

Lastly, Klinio claims to help cleanse and detox your body. Currently, there is no compelling evidence[8] to support the use of “detoxing” or “cleansing” supplements or diets.

Potential Side Effects

Overall, the Klinio app is safe and potentially even helpful for many people. However, it may be unhelpful or even harmful to others.

Klinio and other health apps that closely monitor weight, calorie intake, steps, and physical activity can intensify the rigidity of dieting, contribute to an eating disorder,[9] or worsen a pre-existing one.

Additionally, the extreme calorie restriction on some meal plans is unlikely to be sustainable for some people.

Furthermore, the company does not mention offering a one-on-one consultation with a registered dietitian during sign-up or ongoing coaching support throughout your diabetes management journey, so it is unclear what level of support exists. 

Klinio provides access to a “nutritionist” 24/7 but does not provide details on the education or credentials required for this position.

Klinio is relatively easy to navigate and user-friendly. You can begin your diabetes weight loss journey through Klinio by signing up on their website or downloading the Klinio app through Google Play or Apple App Store.

To start, you’ll be asked to take a quiz, which asks what diabetes diagnosis you’ve received — type 1, type 2, pre-diabetes, or if you don’t have diabetes —  followed by questions about:

  • The number of meals and snacks you want each day.
  • Dietary allergies and food preferences.
  • Any other existing medical conditions you have.
  • Your current activity level.
  • Your age, height, weight, and goal weight.

Once the quiz is complete, you’ll be asked to enter your e-mail to receive the results and choose your membership. The results will outline your daily calorie needs, fluid requirements, and how long it may take to achieve your goal.

After you choose your membership plan and pay, you will have full access to the key features offered by Klinio. Your membership will automatically renew each month until you cancel it.
