The Vancouver Sun published an op-ed by UBC neurologist Dr. Sian Spacey about how the province could help people who suffer from migraines.
June is Migraine Awareness Month in the U.S. and Spacey believes Canada needs to do more to treat migraines.
“As patients we need to reduce our reliance on narcotic painkillers. As physicians, we need to carefully consider the diagnosis of migraine, ensure patients aren’t overusing medications and prescribe counselling and preventive medications before turning to narcotics,” Spacey wrote. “Finally, governments can ensure physicians and patients have the necessary resources and tools to effectively manage this debilitating and costly condition.”
