Hospital expert invites the public to find out more about how back pain can be treated

Ankylosing Spondylitis is an under-diagnosed disease which causes back pain. Patients with inflammatory back symptoms may be suffering from this disease, but are not aware of it and the average delay in diagnosis from symptom onset to diagnosis is 10 years.

Rheumatologist, Dr Jaya Ravindran from University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust will be presenting at a free event about the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatments of Ankylosing Spondylitis used by the hospital Trust.

Dr Ravindran said: “Increasing awareness in primary and secondary care to identify and investigate patients with inflammatory back pain is important so that patients with this condition are diagnosed early. This disease particularly affects young adults and I hope my presentation sheds light on the effective treatments available to help them at UHCW to manage this condition.”

This event will take place between 5pm and 6pm on Thursday 21st November 2013 in the Clinical Sciences Building, University Hospital, Clifford Bridge Road, Coventry.
