Outbreak of measles in Oslo

Measles rashThe first child who became ill was infected by visitors from abroad. For various reasons, the children who have contracted measles were not vaccinated against the disease (MMR vaccine).

Health services in the district have started to inform the affected community, identify vaccination status and offer vaccination to those who want it. Doctors in the district should be aware of measles as a possible diagnosis of rashes in children. Tests should always be taken to confirm the diagnosis.

Measles is now a very rare disease in Norway thanks to a high level of child immunisation. Out of the vaccine-preventable childhood diseases it causes the most severe symptoms,. Measles is a major cause of illness and mortality among children in developing countries.
