The study seeks to determine which program sustains the greatest weight loss for overweight adults with pre-diabetes.
The Indiana University Diabetes Translational Research Center study is open to at-risk people older than 18.
Risk factors include, but are not limited to:
- Have a family history of diabetes.
- Are overweight (with a body mass index greater than 24).
- Had diabetes while pregnant or delivered a baby weighing 9 pounds or more at birth.
- Have diagnosis of pre-diabetes or elevated blood sugar levels.
Study participants will receive free screenings, including blood sugar and blood cholesterol measurements.
Earlier studies have shown that a weight loss of 7 percent can greatly reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Enrollment in the study is anticipated to continue through spring 2013.
