About Gundry MD

An estimated 60 to 70 million people[1] in the United States are affected by digestive diseases. Without a healthy gut, it’s hard to feel and look your best. More than ever, people are turning to natural remedies and taking a holistic approach to healing their gut.

Our gut is home to trillions of bacteria[2] and immune cells that work to fight off infection. It also communicates[3] with the brain through nerves and hormones. As researchers discover more about gut health, many people realize that it plays a key role in putting our bodies into working order.

One man named Steven Gundry, MD, has spent years researching the human microbiome. Dr. Gundry started his career as a heart surgeon, but after experiencing his own health issues, he realized the importance of gut health.

His research led him to develop a complete line of nutritional supplements called Gundry MD. These products are designed to help restore the body to optimum health and wellness by taking care of the good bacteria within the gut.

Today, we will be reviewing one of Dr. Gundry’s top-selling gut health products, Bio Complete 3. We’ll discuss its ingredients, pros and cons, and any potential side effects. We’ll also provide you with other alternative gut health supplements.

Gundry MD Bio Complete 3 Ingredients

Gundry MD Bio Complete 3 is formulated with 1000 milligrams of CoreBiome, 200 milligrams of SunFiber®, and 16 milligrams of Bacillus coagulans (ProDura®). Together, these compounds can work to support a healthy gut lining. Since over 70%[4] of your immune system lies within your gut, this blend may also support a healthy immune system.

bio complete 3 ingredients

The formula is third-party tested for purity and quality and manufactured in the United States. However, it does not appear there is a certified seal with any accrediting body.

According to Dr. Gundry, it’s also formulated to be ultra-fast absorbing, so it can go right to work in your gut to allow you to reap the full benefits without waiting.

Next, let’s dig a little deeper into the ingredients that make up Bio Complete 3.

CoreBiome™, 1000 milligrams

CoreBiomeis a clinically researched and patent-pending form of tributyrin, a short-chain fatty acid that acts as a postbiotic. Probiotics feed off of prebiotics thus making postbiotics the “waste” of probiotics that are responsible for multiple health benefits. The supplement is produced by Compound Solutions, which reports that this supplement is one of the top-selling postbiotics in the world.

Moreover, it is the foundational ingredient in many top-selling gut health supplements.

Compound Solutions also reports that CoreBiome™ is the only tributyrin in the world, with clinical data showing it reaches the colon. As of right now, it does not appear any studies showing this outcome are posted publicly.

However, there is an ongoing clinical study to further investigate the benefits. One unique benefit being studied is that CoreBiome™ can boost butyrate-producing bacteria in the gut. Butyrate[5] is a short-chain fatty acid that can support digestive health.

Sunfiber®, 200 milligrams

SunFiber® (guar fiber) is one of the most studied prebiotic fibers in the literature and can increase the number of healthy bacteria in your gut microbiome.

Several clinical studies[6] have found that guar fiber can promote regular bowel movements. Studies[6] recommend taking a minimum of 5 to 10 grams of guar fiber daily to treat symptoms associated with most digestive conditions. Dr. Gundry’s Bio Complete 3 only has 200 milligrams, or 0.2 grams, of SunFiber, which is considerably less than most studies recommend.

ProDura®, 16 milligrams

ProDura® Bacillus coagulans is a unique strain of spore-forming bacteria with an outer shell to protect it from harsh environments. It reverts to its active form under perfect conditions in the large intestine.

This supplement is a unique probiotic because it can withstand bile and stomach acid while still being easily absorbed when it reaches your large intestine.

According to their website, a 2013 laboratory study found that ProDura® had a greater heat resistance compared to two well-established competitors on the market. However, it does not appear this study is publicly available.

Bacillus coagulans are a type of beneficial bacteria naturally found in foods such as sauerkraut, kimchi, and yogurt. Small studies have suggested it may benefit people with irritable bowel syndrome,[7] intestinal gas,[8] and constipation.[9]

However, according to the National Library of Medicine’s[10] database, Bacillus coagulans are possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome. Still, there is not enough evidence to deem it effective for other gastrointestinal disorders at this time.

Unfortunately, we do not know how many colony-forming units of Bacillus coagulans are in Bio Complete 3. It is only listed by weight, making it difficult to tell the number of bacteria in this product.

Health Benefits Of Bio Complete 3

According to Dr. Gundry’s website, this supplement offers numerous health benefits such as

  • A slimmer waistline
  • Smoother digestion and a healthy digestive system
  • Healthier bowel movements
  • Decreased unhealthy cravings More energy
  • Better weight management
  • Improved muscle strength

Dr. Gundry attributes these benefits to what he calls a “3-Pronged Self Defense” to gut health.

By boosting probiotic levels, you’ll have more healthy bacteria in your gut, thus improving digestive health and reducing harmful bacteria.

Taking prebiotics can help fuel your healthy bacteria so they can thrive. Essentially they serve as food for probiotics.[11]

By boosting postbiotic levels, you can strengthen and repair your gut and combat issues like leaky gut, fatigue, and cravings for junk food. Postbiotics[11] are left over after your body digests both pre and probiotics. They can also help good bacteria thrive.

Potential Side Effects

Bio Complete 3 claims to be third-party tested to ensure the product is both pure and safe for human consumption. Moreover, probiotics and prebiotics are considered safe for the general population.

Some users report minor side effects such as gas, bloating, or diarrhea when starting a probiotic supplement.

However, as with all dietary supplements, it is vital to speak with a qualified healthcare provider before taking Bio Complete 3.

Dosage

According to his website, Dr. Gundry recommends taking two caplets twice daily before a meal. He also strongly encourages consumers to take it every day consistently for it to be fully beneficial.

Bio Complete 3 Review: What Do Real Users Say?

We’ve scoured the internet to seek the best reviews and consumer reports to discover what users are saying about this digestive health supplement.

Overall, Gundry MD has 4.33 out of 5 stars and has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.[12]

Here’s a look at what real users are saying about Bio Complete 3:

“I have struggled with an autoimmune issue called Proctitis, an inflammatory bleeding condition, for the past five years. My Gastroenterologist has had me on numerous medications such as Mesalamine and Hydrocortisone suppositories, and enemas. When those failed repeatedly, they even put me on Prednisone 40 mg, graduating down for six weeks until I was off the medicine, but even that didn’t clear up my condition.

Anonymous

“When my doctor again was having me repeat another six weeks of Prednisone, out of desperation, I thought to myself – it can’t hurt to try a “Probiotic” and happened to notice Dr. Gundry’s ad on CNN.com. Well, I tried it, and within three days, I saw no blood evidence, and essentially, the condition had completely disappeared. I am not an advertiser or in any way connected with Dr. Gundry’s business, but I have to say, this product has been a miracle for me!!!”

Claudia

“As a lifetime sufferer of chronic constipation and having endured surgery to remove diverticula ridden section of my lower intestine, I was told by my surgeon to change your habits or I would be back under the scalpel. Bio Complete 3 has been key in getting a regular, comfortable routine in my digestive health. I bought it with the hope that it would work, and my dependence on harsh laxatives would be a thing of the past. This product is worth every penny!”

Scott

“Only have only had it for three weeks, but I don’t have stomach acid at night when I want to sleep. I am regular now, and I have been able to cut down on sweets. I do not crave them. I have six months’ worth of tablets. I hope to feel like a new person then. I also use Lectin Shield. I’ll be 70 next year.”

Final Thought

The more we learn about gut health, the more taking probiotic supplements to support a healthy gut and overall well-being makes sense.

Overall, Gundry MD Bio Complete 3 appears to be a good option to support optimal gut health. It is a combination gut health supplement that includes probiotics, prebiotics, and postbiotics to repair and support your digestive tract.

In the future, it would be nice to see the amount of CFU’s (beneficial bacteria) in the strain of bacteria in this supplement. This would help add transparency and value to the brand.
