The new data, released on Friday, January 13, 2012, showed the Jewish Hospital Transplant Center has a 94 percent survival rate for one-year post-liver transplant patient survival.
Other data included in the report showed the Jewish Hospital Transplant Center’s outcomes that were numerically better than expected as well as better than the national average at all time points studied, which includes survival rates at one month, one year and three years post-transplant.
The Jewish Hospital Transplant Center, a partnership with the University of Louisville School of Medicine, is one of the country’s leading providers of organ transplantation and the only adult transplant center in Louisville.
“We are very pleased with the patient outcome data reflected in the latest SRTR report,” said Michael Marvin, M.D., director of Transplantation at Jewish Hospital, and associate professor of Surgery at the University of Louisville. “Patients in the region can receive excellent care in transplantation right here in Louisville. Our center is outperforming others in the state and region and those outcomes reflect the experience and dedication of our entire transplant team.”
Founded in 1987, the SRTR supports the ongoing evaluation of the scientific and clinical status of organ transplantation. Data in the registry are collected by the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) from hospitals and organ procurement organizations (OPOs) across the country. The information is used to help develop evidence-based policy, to support analysis of transplant programs and OPOs, and to encourage research on issues of importance to the transplant community.
“The kindness of donor families allows us to continue our ground-breaking work in transplantation,” said Doug Howell, interim president, Jewish Hospital. “Thanks to their generous acts, and our talented and dedicated physicians and staff, we continue to save lives and improve patient outcomes significantly year after year.”
For Kentuckians, joining the Kentucky Donor Registry is as easy as logging on to the secure website www.donatelifeky.org or signing up when you renew your driver’s license.
