2022 US Fitness Trends According To Researchers

With efforts to ramp up health and fitness levels in 2022, US citizens are getting back to exercise and following the latest fitness trends.

Throughout the country, a rising internet in fitness ideas is being seen with citizens opting for functional fitness, intuitive eating, and social exercise. Recent news released online pinpoints ever-rising popularity in the following fitness styles: mixed martial arts, ultimate frisbee, and boxing.

With Covid-19 Leaving People Isolated, Social Exercise Is On The Cards In 2022

While previous years saw individuals working out alone, now, citizens are seeking social exercise. With this, online news showcasing the falling of interest in home workouts by 45% is not surprising. As stated in Henry Herald, interactions are valuable, which further reveals that while people enjoyed the gym, they now seek the social element of fitness in other means. However, US citizens are seeking gyms more so in 2022.

While it is hoped that Covid-19 will decrease in the near future with restrictions lessening, it is hoped that fitness will be done in person, or in groups, with the dust setting on home dumbbells and exercise machines.

A Move Away From Traditional Bodybuilding And Towards Functional Fitness, Including Cross-Training This Year

Fitness this year will see fewer traditional bodybuilding workouts and an increase in functional-based workouts. Now, US citizens will seek to achieve a more varied list of fitness goals, with functional fitness helping those to build muscles, maintain strength and fitness and lose weight.

The Albany Herald points out another trend that sees fitness combined with vegan diets. This year, those seeking high levels of fitness will opt for plant-based diets and powerful sources of energy and nutrition. Structuring meals high in vegan protein and protein powders will see fitness fans bulk up and boost energy levels to sustain fitness routines.

An Increase Interest In Intuitive Eating And Cognitive Fitness This Year

Vegan diets go hand-in-hand with intuitive eating, another 2022 trend hitting the US fitness scene. With a more holistic view of physical and mental health, intuitive eating will see US citizens building a positive relationship with food, diet, and eating habits.

Along with intuitive eating, our previous blog on nutrition and immune systems provides much information on 2022 nutrition. View the article on improved eating habits here

Workout Plans Around Biometric Data Becomes A Popular Trend

Another fitness trend hitting the US trend chart is data-driven workout plans. Fitness technology topped the 2021 fitness list, and now, this year, data captured by fitness technology is being used to coordinate workout plans, provide speed and power timing analysis in weightlifting, and more.

As Frustration And Tension Mounts, 2021 Fitness Trends Will Carry Long Into 2022

With frustration and tension carrying through into the new year, thanks to Covid-19, US citizens will continue to look to combat sports in an effort to maintain high fitness levels and release tension. From boxing, kickboxing, mixed martial arts, and karate, combat sports will continue to rank high on the list of fitness trends.

Further Trends And Key Fitness Points For 2022

A recent study provides a thorough overview of this national shift towards health, the following poignant findings relate to fitness and exercise:

  • US Adults are now prioritizing physical health, fitness, and nutrition
  • 62% of adults in the US are embracing health fitness tools to assist them in reaching their new health goals
  • US women are more interested in personalized options to assist them in reaching their new health, fitness, and wellness goals
  • Individuals are now reimaging what fitness means to them, with new approaches sought out
  • Over the next 6 months, fitness goals include losing weight and exercising more
  • Efforts to improve fitness, for most US individuals, still revolve around eating and exercise, however only a third of US adults feel exercise habits are highly effective with new fitness approaches
  • Over the next six months, exercise on a regular basis will be prioritized
  • Stress level improvement efforts over the last 12 months are mainly due to exercise

As revealed on our previous blog, key findings of a Health & Wellness Study as well as newly-released fitness trends will see Americans focus more on fitness in 2022 and discovering a healthier lifestyle this year.
